The “Oman Solar investment opportunities” report from SolarPower Europe’s Global Markets unit highlights Oman’s current electricity mix as primarily natural gas-based.

Oman’s Renewable Energy Goals

Oman aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, with interim renewable energy development goals of 11% by 2025 and 30% by 2030. To meet its targets, Oman will need to install a minimum of 13 GW of solar by 2030. Oman’s utility-scale PV capacity was 0.5 GW in 2022, with the Ibri II solar plant being a significant contributor.

Several solar projects are set to go into operation in the coming years, including the Manah I and Manah II solar plants.

Oman launched a public tender for the Ibri Solar III project in January 2024. Public tenders are expected for three new solar projects and five wind projects between 2025 and 2029.

The project includes a ~15 MW storage project paired with a ~32 MW Solar Project in the Yabucoa Municipality.

Infinigen is partnering with FlexGen Power Systems for this project, aiming to provide reliability and flexibility to the local grid while complying with Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority requirements.

FlexGen’s HybridOS energy management system platform and digital controls will be utilized for the project, with Infinigen’s current fleet in Puerto Rico exceeding 100 MW with this project.

Infinigen aims to be a leading developer and operator of solar and storage capacity in Puerto Rico.
