Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently embarked on a two-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, where he participated in various significant events and inaugurated several development projects.
On his first day in Assam, Modi traveled to Golaghat district in a chopper and engaged in a 16-kilometer-long roadshow to Kaziranga.
The following day, he is scheduled to experience a safari in Kaziranga.
Development Projects in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh
During his visit, Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects amounting to a total of Rs 18,000 crore in Assam and at the Centre.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Sela Tunnel, which is recognized as the world’s longest twin tunnels constructed at an altitude exceeding 13,000 feet.
The primary objective of the Sela Tunnel project is to provide all-weather connectivity to the Tawang region.
The project includes two tunnels and a link road, with Tunnel 1 measuring 980 meters in length and Tunnel 2 spanning 1,555 meters, featuring one bi-lane tube for traffic and an escape tube for emergencies.
The link road connecting the two tunnels will be 1,200 meters long.
Additionally, Modi launched the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation Scheme with a financial outlay surpassing Rs 10,000 crore.
This scheme, also known as UNNATI – 2024, is the central government’s flagship project for the North East and is designed to foster industrial growth and employment opportunities in the region over the next decade.
During the event in Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar, Modi unveiled development projects worth Rs 55,600 crore for various Northeastern states.
He stressed the importance of modern infrastructure and economic development in the region, emphasizing the expansion of industries as a key focus area for the NDA government in the Northeast.
The Prime Minister criticized the Congress and the INDIA Opposition alliance for neglecting the Northeast due to the smaller number of Parliament seats from the region.
