The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar against the CPI (Maoists) in an anti-India conspiracy case.

Raids were carried out at 11 locations in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh, and one location in Kaimur district, Bihar.

Digital devices, mobile phones, SIM cards, memory cards, and incriminating documents were seized during the searches.

The NIA took over the investigation on November 10 last year after the arrest of five persons in Ballia.

The NIA charged four accused on February 9, 2024.

The NIA’s investigation revealed that the banned outfit is trying to re-energize its presence in the Northern Regional Bureau.

Leaders, cadres, sympathizers, and CPI (Maoist) Overground Workers (OGWs) are working to revive the organization’s presence in the region.

In recent months, the NIA has been taking aggressive action to counter the organization’s plans.

In a separate incident, the NIA team was attacked by a mob in West Bengal’s Bhupatinagar.

The NIA denied allegations of ‘mala fide’ and said the attack was unprovoked.

The NIA team had come under violent attack by an unruly mob during searches in Naruabila village.

East Midnapore police booked the NIA team under charges of molestation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the NIA of attacking, not the women.

Banerjee claimed NIA officials were barging into homes at midnight to create terror.

The NIA team was attacked after picking up two TMC workers in connection with a blast that killed three people.

Two NIA officials received minor injuries during the attack.
