The Election Commission of India (ECI) has recently made public fresh data on electoral bonds, believed to be from before April 12, 2019.

The data was submitted by political parties in sealed covers as directed by the Supreme Court, and following the court’s order, the data on electoral bonds has been ordered to be put in the public domain.

Top Recipients of Electoral Bonds

According to the data, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received the highest amount of funds through electoral bonds, totaling ₹6,986.5 crore.

Other major recipients include the Trinamool Congress with ₹1,397 crore, the Congress with ₹1,334 crore, and BRS with ₹1,322 crore.

Breakdown of Funds

Additionally, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) received ₹944.5 crore, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) received ₹656.5 crore, and the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSR Congress) received ₹442.8 crore.

Notable donations include Future Gaming and Hotel Services contributing ₹509 crore to the DMK. Future Gaming emerged as the biggest purchaser of electoral bonds, with a total of ₹1,368 crore, of which 37% went to the DMK. Other significant donors to the DMK included Megha Engineering, India Cements, and Sun TV.

Furthermore, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) redeemed bonds worth ₹181.35 crore, while the Shiv Sena received ₹60.4 crore and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) received ₹56 crore.

The Samajwadi Party received ₹14.05 crore, the Shiromani Akali Dal received ₹7.26 crore, and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) received ₹6.05 crore.

Interestingly, the DMK disclosed the identity of its donors, while the BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not divulge details of their donors.
