Legal and Partnership News

In legal news, Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, its CEO, Sam Altman, and its president, Greg Brockman.

The lawsuit includes claims of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and unfair competition.

The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI prioritized profits and commercial interests in developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) over its nonprofit duty to protect the public good.

Legal experts suggest that Musk’s lawsuit raises valid concerns about the potential for a company to launch as a nonprofit, collect pre-tax donations, and then transfer the IP into a for-profit venture.

The lawsuit also highlights the structural issues between nonprofit and for-profit entities within OpenAI.

Lastly, Paris-based startup Mistral AI has formed partnerships with IBM, Microsoft, and others.

The company specializes in natural language processing models and conversational AI capabilities.

Mistral AI’s flagship commercial model, Mistral Large, was unveiled through a deal with Microsoft to offer it via the Azure cloud platform.

According to Mistral’s benchmarks, Mistral Large is the world’s second most capable commercial language model behind GPT-4.

The company has received $415 million in funding and is positioned to compete with dominant players like OpenAI and Anthropic.
